Generally speaking full post-editing checks the accuracy of the translation against the source text and makes changes to style, syntax and grammar. In the case of light post-editing the translator only checks the accuracy of the translation against the source text in those sections flagged as unclear by the client. The focus here is limited to improving the style and clarity of the target text. The accuracy of the translation has already been checked by the client.
Does post-editing cost less than translation?
Pricing very much depends on the specific scope of the work requested. If the text is well written there could be as much as a 50%-60% cost saving compared to the price of translation. If the initial translation is inaccurate, post-editing may not be cost effective, making a full translation at the standard rate a better option.
